Holetown Festival and parade

The Holetown Festival is one of the annual events that I look forward to, although I do not attend most of the activities.  I do love the old car parade and the parade of the scouts, girl guides, dancers, children and the defense force.  Each year it is different with a whole range of artists and performers parading in the street.

The children come out and join them, they love the music and the colours.

Some of the things that you might catch are:

Historic lectures, fashion show, beauty contest, tattoo show, concerts, theatrical presentations and sports events as well as cultural events such as steel Pan, Tuk Band, Stilt walkers, Acrobats, singing and dancing.  I could go on and here is where I recommend that you go and see it for yourself.

Saturday is my favourite day to go.  The roads are blocked and all of the tents are filled with clothes, pottery, soaps and candles, metal work, bags, mats, woodwork, fish and birds and, once again, the list goes on.

I forgot to mention the food.  We stopped and got a fruit smoothie which was cold and delicious.  The cold drink was especially refreshing after standing in the sun to photograph the parade.

We walked past many food stalls with macaroni pie (macaroni and cheese), chicken, fish and other Bajan food.

As I walk past I was drawn by the colours.  My favourites are the paintings, jewelery and wood work.  Barbados has a lot of very talented artists.

Most of the people are ok with photographers taking pictures.  They understand that people want to take pictures to show others what they have experienced.  Some of the people are protective of their art and their designs so I do like to ask permission when I am taking pictures of some of the art and be respectful when people do not want pictures taken.  Where possible I have included the cards or info of the artists.

If you get the opportunity, go to the Barbados Holetown Festival and enjoy every part of our culture.

In the mean time enjoy the pictures and contact me if you need a photographer.
